This largely wild waterfall is located in the small town of Montville, just east of the town of Moravia. Montville falls is on Dresserville Creek, just upstream of where it joins Decker Creek to form Mill Creek. There is another waterfall along Decker Creek, but I did not have a chance to visit it.
The rock here is decidedly different looking than the rock at the many nearby Finger Lakes waterfalls. Shale predominates elsewhere, giving many of the falls a washboard look. The rock here is much more solid.
To reach this falls from Filmore Glen, head north on Rte 38. Take a right onto Rte 38A in Moravia. You will soon enter Montville. At the bottom of a small hill the road crosses a bridge (Mill Creek). There is a parking area on the left. There was an old Mill here, but it has been torn down. If you reach the St Patrick's and Indian Mound Cemetery, you have gone too far. Once you leave your car, you have to walk upstream about 1/4 mile. There is a rough trail along the right hand bank, but you can also just wade upstream, keeping to the right.
Nearby Falls
Fillmore Glen is twenty minutes away. In the nearby Ithaca area you will find Ithaca Falls, Cascadilla Gorge, Buttermilk Falls State Park, Lucifer Falls, Taughannock Falls and several other waterfalls.
Other Websites
I found out about Montville Falls from www.naturalhighs.net. As you can see in their photos, the creek has a lot more water earlier in the year.
