Wequiock Falls

Water Source: Wequiock Creek

Summary: This waterfall is a result of the Niagara Escarpment and is one of the Lake Michigan Waterfalls. It is easy to visit, and in the spring it is fairly impressive, but it is reduced to a trickle in the summer.

Wequiock Falls is located in a small roadside park in Wisconsin's Brown County. An old bridge is located just above the falls. A set of stone stairs takes you down into the gorge for some up close views of the falls.

Wequiock Falls Park is off of Sturgeon Bay Rd (57). There is a sign for the park. After turning off of Sturgeon Bay Rd onto Van Laanen Rd, the first right is the entrance to the park. To reach the falls from I-43 take exit 185 and head north/east on 57 for 7 miles.

You will want to visit this waterfall in the spring, or after a good rain. I was fortunate to see the falls the day after a night of very heavy rain. Some of these photos are very flattering, and perhaps make the falls prettier and wilder looking than it actually is. If you are unfortunate, the bottom right picture is what you will see.

Nearby Falls

The somewhat smaller Fonferek Falls is 20 miles to the southwest. To reach it from Wequiock Falls return to I-43, head south and take exit 178. Fonferek Falls has even less water, and may not be flowing even if Wequiock Falls is.
