Rose River Falls is a pair of drops on the Rose River in Shenandoah National Park. The upper drop is about 20', and the lower is about 25'. Rose River does not carry a lot of water, especially in the summer. The lower falls is interesting because the water is all channelled through a narrow groove in the rock. I imagine in high water it might spill over the entire rock face, which would be pretty darn impressive.

The shortest hike to the falls starts at the Fishers Gap Overlook. From here, cross skyline drive to Rose River Trail. Take an immediate left on to Rose River Horse Trail. Follow this for .8 miles. This is almost entirely downhill. Here you will reach the Rose River Trail. Follow this for another .6 miles to the falls.

The trail leads right up to the top of the upper falls, and it is a popular picnic site. It is easy to scramble down to the base of the upper falls. Getting a good view of the lower falls is a bit trickier. In fact, getting any view of the lower falls is tricky, but with some effort you can get down into the gorge below the lower falls.

If you continue downstream you will pass a number of small falls, but it is not easy to get a good view of them from the trail. In a third of a mile you will reach the Hogcamp Branch of Rose River. Following the trail upstream for .9 miles will take you to Dark Hollow Falls.

There are a lot of waterfalls of various sizes in Shenandoah National Park. Dark Hollow Falls is just over a mile hike away. Elsewhere in Shenandoah you can find White Oak Falls, Lewis Spring Falls, Cedar Falls, Jones Run Falls, South River Falls, and Overall Run Falls.
