Summary: Silver Run Falls is a medium sized, easily visited waterfall. One of many falls in the area, and a nice stop on any waterfall tour.

Silver Run Falls is a pretty waterfall located 5 miles south of Cashiers North Carolina. Despite being close to the road, this waterfall still has a wild feel to it. There are no railings, and the surrounding trees and rocks mask the sound of road.

To reach the falls head south on Route 107 from Cashiers. There is a rough pull out on the east side of the road with a National Forest sign. There is a curve and hill here, so be careful entering and exiting the highway. The trail leads into the woods. It is an easy and short hike to the falls pass rhodendron and mountain laurel. There is a large pool below the falls with a sandy shore. There are sparkles in the sand. Perhaps that is the reason for the Silver Run name.

There is an upper falls of about the same size a few hundred feet upstream. Unfortunately I was not aware of the upper falls when I visited, so I did not see it. I do not remember if the trail continued upstream, but I also did not look for it.

Nearby Falls

There are a lot of waterfalls in this part of the world. If you head west from Cashiers on Highway 64 you can find Bridal Veil Falls, Dry Falls, Quarry Falls and Cullasaja Falls all within 18 miles. The small stream you cross on the way to Silver Run falls is the headwater of the Whitewater River. 20 miles to the east this little stream has grown and tumbles over the magnificent Whitewater Falls. A dozen other significant falls can be found within a 50 mile radius.
