Hayden Falls is located in a gorge in a suburb northwest of Columbus. Hayden Run has carved an impressive little gorge on its way to the Scioto River. Until recently, this was a very wild looking gorge despite being located in an urban area, and not well known even to locals.
A stairway down into the gorge and a boardwalk near the base of the falls were added sometime after 2005. Before that the gorge was entirely wild looking, despite having houses line the southern edge of the gorge, and being just a few miles away from a major mall. The stairway is nice, but the boardwalk is a bit much, particularly because the trail from the stairway to the boardwalk is just as wild as before, and requires a stream crossing when the water is up. In high water, the boardwalk will still be inaccessible.
The falls are located in Griggs Reservoir Park on the west side of the Scioto River. There is a small parking area on the south side of Hayden Run Rd. There is a large sign, and the stairs into the gorge are clearly visible. To reach the falls from I-270 take Exit 15 and head east on Tuttle Crossing Blvd. Take a right onto Franz Rd, and then a left onto Hayden Run Rd. The parking area will be on your right.
The amount of water here varies a lot throughout the year. When the water is high the gorge trail is impassable.
Here is a short movie of Hayden Falls.
